I’ve been feeling really blue lately. Tired all the time and crying often. I also feel nauseous everytime I eat or sometimes even think of food. I know I am not pregnant so thats not an answer. I have delt with depression before and I would typically go see a doctor, however, I no long have health insurance. Does anyone know if there is something I can take over the counter to help?

Yes, it can make you sick.
No, there is nothing over the counter you need to get if you really feel you are depressed.
Call your physician and let them talk with you and let them tell you what to put in your system for your depression.
Don’t rely on perfect strangers!
it just might be a pre menstrual thingie. how long have you had this ? or does it come periodically only ?
vitamins B complex and C can help in depression. get some exercise as well. i heard a 15 minute brisk walk everyday can lift up depressed spirits.
Yes I think it’s depression. No over the counter meds. that I know of. My husbands a real sickly person. He has the same problems.
Well, I know all about depression and the side affects that come along with it! Depression doesn’t only affect your mood, but it also affects your appetite, love life, appearance and the list goes on and on! I too have suffered from depression in my life and I find the best over the counter drug for me was St. Johns Wart. It is an herb that is clinically proven to arouse the serotonin in your brain and help your chemicals balance out. Try it out…it doesn’t coast that much and the results are a asset to your heath:)

depression can make you sick to your stomach.
you need to go see a doctor
there are some that offer services for little or no charge, you need to investigate on that in your city.
There is nothing that you can take over the counter for depression.
I would suggest you rent a funny movie like Super Troopers or American Pie or something that you consider funny and start that way until you get to a doctor.
Good Luck and keep your head up
Depression can result in physical symptoms. Nausea isn’t a typical symptom but it is possible, because depression can affect the way you feel about food.
However, it can also be a symptom of other physical conditions, some of which can be serious. Insurance or no insurance, you should try to see a doctor. If you can’t afford to go for an office visit, you could try to get an appointment through your County health and welfare department, or at a college near you that has a medical school or teaching hospital. Payment is usually on an ability-to-pay basis.
You might also contact your local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI, national website ). This is an advocacy group for the mentally ill and their families, and they ought to be able to refer you to some resources in your community where you can obtain low-cost or no-cost medical treatment for depression.
Over the counter, St. John’s Wort is available and some people swear by it; but there are no definitive studies that have proven that it works.
There are a couple of other approaches you could try. There are studies that have proven that an excercise regimen can help to alleviate depression, so you might try taking up a program of running or brisk walking, starting with maybe just 15-20 minutes per day and extending the amount of time you spend gradually.
Another approach that has helped some sufferers is to get a light box. It seems that depression is triggered/made worse by declining photoperiod (shortening length of daylight hours), and there are some people who experience a seasonal depression, so much so that there’s a name for it in the psychiatric community: Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). This is one website with information about such a lightbox:
If you Google on SAD light box, you’ll get a whole bunch of hits to explore.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
Keep your chin up!! Get some exercise in….. ride a bike….. check out the website and type in meditation into the keyword search. There are 4 types and you need to listen to these…. I had the same problem and this meditation deal worked for me. Also, when you are walking outside, remember to always look ahead. Don’t look down. Always look out into the horizon.
I am on Alprazalom and it had worked, but I am not a pill user. Exercise and meditation have been the best for me to heal. Good luck…..
nausea and body pain are some symptoms of depression
over the counter help-dramamine and st johns wort
First go see your doctor and he will prescribe you an anti-depressant. If you are nauseous try taking gravol or the generic equivalent of gravol, which is much cheaper. If you cannot afford the anti-depressants then try some St. John’s Wort and take it exactly as it suggests. Also try to get some exercise. That helps my depression a lot. Good luck!!
there isnt anything over the counter, you can only get prescribed medication from the doctor to help with that. but depression can make you feel very sick all the time… it sucks
