squeezing in regular exercise would probably do better for you. Can you do a half hour walk a day? I think you will find it really improves your mood.

  2. viking_no3 says:

St. John’s Wort (an herb) supposedly works for mild depression.

  3. Farticus says:

Saint Johns Wart is supposed to help alleviate some of the symptoms, however if you are depressed, it would be best to consult a professional.

  4. tinaturner says:

Go to your Dr. so you can get the right depression pill to fit your depression.

  5. chickeedo says:

Try St. John’s Wort…I hear that works:)

  6. psykochatter says:

as said above, st. john’s wart. However, you might want to try evaluating what you’re eating and change it up a bit. Also, do some exercises and breathing/stretching.

If it persists, I’d see a doctor.

  7. NurseAnnie says:

Before taking any herbs, you really need to see your doctor for a proper diagnosis, and to make sure an herb or medication is right for you.

  8. jymsis says:

    Saint John’s wort.
It’s like a little miracle in a bottle.

  9. wbbdriver10 says:

Best is watch your diet and make sure you excercise. St. John’s Wort can help in some cases. B vitamins can too, but they can really mess some people up. Focus on the good, find someone to talk to. . .pray a lot. . .that works. Been there.

It’s true St John’s Wort has been proven to show a clinically significant effect on mild to moderate depression. I’d consider talking to someone whther a friend or stranger (eg samaritans) and trying to identify precipitating, predisposing and percipitating factors to your situation and ways to tackle them. Your doctor will be able to prescribe antidepressants if you wish to (assuming he feels you need them).

St Johns Wort is a herb that can help. If you go into any healthfood store many vitamin brands (eg. blackmores) have vitamins made up specifically for depression. Most of them contain St Johns Wort. Get advice from the person who works there they usually know which ones are best. Don’t expect them to kick in for about a month, but if after 2-3 months you find they don’t seem to be working, you need to see a doctor, because prescribed anti-depressants really DO work, and it’s important to get help. I’ve tried the natural and medical versions and found them both to be helpful for different situations. Give it a go.

Vitamin B complex works wonders, doctor prescribe it for PMS too. St Johns Wort is great too, my chemist told me it was better than Prozac. You should see the doctor if it’s really bad but try these and I hope you feel better soon. Black Cohosh is good to.

OK, well the best thing to do for depression is get rid of it by non pharmacological means. Exercise is good, as is a good diet full of fruits and vegetables (junk food makes u feel terrible - if u don’t believe me see Supersize me). You can also go about getting lots of sunshine (excercise outside!!!!) or buy urself a lightbox if u live in a dark place.

The next step is to go and see ur doctor (and it worries me if u don’t want to do this). They can help u understand if u are depressed. If u are depressed and want to take an over the counter remedy, the most well known is St Johns Wort. But this interacts with so so so many other drugs. So the only place to find out what interactions there are is to go see a doctor. In my experience this is only what the health food shop assistants tell u. You also want to avoid cheese, red wine and broad bean pods with St Johns Wort. And it’s only good for mild depression.

U might also consider going to see a therapist who will help u get tot he bottom of why ur depressed. To me this seems like the obvious option as you should be tackling the root of the problem rather that the effect.

Hope u get better, really is one of the worst feeling in the world.

See viking_no3 note and add to it that approximately 33% of Major Depression cases would find significant relief if they stuck to a daily exercise routine and had better nutrition. There is considerable research to show that if you get physically active and also spend time engaging in enjoyable activities on top of it, that most cases of depression will dissipate.

Yes, and it’s free. Have a heart-to-heart talk to a couple people whom you trust. I say “a couple of people” so that you can think about their varying ideas and advises. Include a priest or minister. Try it, and you’ll feel much better.
